It wasn't that traveling through time and space and completely missing the intended mark was anything new - but he was completely certain there had been no gate suddenly opening and coming to life. No, all of them were supposed to be closed, gone now that the last paradox had been resolved. It was supposed to be a new beginning.
But all that had come was darkness and loss.
Ever since he had arrived he'd been constantly looking to his side, expecting to see her there, Mog floating bouncily over her shoulder, their ever-present companion.
But instead the place that should have been her's was empty, bare, leaving another gaping whole in his life and heart.
He was alone again. Even here, surrounded by all of these people, he was alone.
Until he saw a flash of bright pink hair moving through the crowd, moving from one aera of the carnival to another. At first, he thought it was nothing more than his mind playing tricks on him, than the bright lights reflecting off blond hair and making him see whatever he wished.
Until the same sight met him later in the day and this time he didn't hesitate before following it. Even if he was wrong, then at least he would know for sure.
But what if it was somehow Lightning?
What if it was somehow Serah?
They had visited times where Yuel was still alive, perhaps this was one where Serah still was.
It's only once he gets close enough, within earshot that he calls out, speaking her name, slightly breathless and voice more than a little hopeful.]
[ She woke up. That was the most immediate warning flag that something had gone wrong, or was different. She didn't come into awareness gently or slowly, she woke up, abruptly, breathing, conscious, feeling, and very much corporeal. There were several possessions with her when she woke, no less.
Like so many others who'd found themselves on an unknown moon in this unknown universe Serah had questions, concerns. She'd immediately searched for a familiar face, Noel, Mog, Lightning, Snow, Sazh, or even Dahj. None stood out among the crowd of confused new arrivals. That hadn't changed when the people arrived to take them planetside, nor had it changed aboard the ship or once they'd landed.
No one had answers as to how she could be here, alive either. No one even seemed to realize she should have been dead to start with, so it begged the question: What happened?
Her last memories of life were... unsettling. Darkness... pain... dizziness... confusion... fear. Noel, reaching out for her as the life simply slipped out of her as easily as one might slip underneath a warm bath, but the sensation was cold and dark. The last thing she saw wasn't even Noel, but the future, distant. It had been so clear at the time, but now she finds herself struggling to muddle together any of it at all. The only thing she can say for certain is that she'd most definitely died. So why is she here and what is this place?
At one point Serah becomes aware that there are eyes on her, but whenever she tries to look around to see who it is the sensation is already passed, the person moved on. It isn't until late in the evening after she's finally relented and after finding a service that offered temporary storage for her things- some type of locker system -she'd set out to learn about her new environs.
She hasn't been at it very long when she hears a familiar voice calling out for her, making her stop in her tracks and turn, eyes searching and voice incredulous. ]
Noel? Noel, is that you?
[ But- HOW?? Was she imagining things? So desperate for a friendly face that she was hearing voices? ]
[For a long moment he does little more than stare at the hand that's being held out in offering - admittedly, it had felt wonderful when she had brushed up against him, an instant sort of relief that was already beginning to wear off. If he could just get back to Serah, he was certain she would be able to help him, either through use of the healing spells she was so good at, or, despite how embarrassingly it might be, through touch.
However.
There was no way he was going to make it make at this rate without scratching his skin raw. Which mean he really had no choice.]
Yeah. Go ahead. [Should he ask? Would it be putting her out?] Listen, I know this is a lot to ask, but me and my friend live nearby. If I can get back to her, I'm sure she can help me out.
[ She doesn't need more permission than that, slipping her arm through his so that their forearms press together, and she takes his hand for good measure. If only this were ALL it took to help others, or at least every now and again it would be nice. ]
If you only knew half the things that are asked of me on a daily basis you would agree this isn't any trouble at all.
[ She says it with a laugh, ears reflecting her amusement, but that isn't an answer, so- ]
I don't mind in the least, but mayhaps introductions are in order?
